NASHVILLE CHAPTER HISTORY

The Nashville Chapter of IMA, chartered June 1, 1939 with 36 members, is now a thriving organization with more than 400 members, and includes two student chapters/affiliates: Western Kentucky University and Middle Tennessee State University.

The Nashville Chapter has always been highly motivated to serve its members and has done well in IMA annual competitions, having consistently finished in the top 75 chapters globally. The original chapter in its early years won six banners, the Carter Trophy, the Robert B. Cooke Certificate of Merit and numerous other awards for membership growth, manuscripts, and socio-economic programs.

The decade of the 80’s started with two Nashville chapters- Music City and Capitol City. The two chapters continued the winning tradition by earning four banners from 1981 to 1990. The Music City Chapter also received an award in recognition of outstanding achievement in public relations for the years 1988-90. Several distinguished community service awards were also earned.

The two chapters were united in 1990 and continue the strong service record. Banners were earned in 1997 and 2004 and the Public Relations Silver Award was received in 2001. Chapter members have published manuscripts not only in Strategic Finance, but in other professional journals. Prior to 2004 the Chapter had representation in various positions at IMA’s Global and Council levels. While serving at these levels, our chapter members were instrumental in policy and rule changes. This leadership experience in IMA also benefited Nashville, as local leaders have been and are becoming some of the outstanding community leaders in all areas of business, social and civic life. During the past 75 plus years, the Nashville Chapter of IMA has not only kept pace with the City’s growth but has contributed to it.

The past few years the Chapter has again experienced a period of growth and recognition earning the following Awards:
